A trick to create an article title? What am I doing talking about “tricks” if I hate them? Well, if I want to tell you what does it work and what doesn’t I have to try everything. And I have to tell you that this trick really works. And it’s not a dirty trick. It’s a kind of white hat trick. Yes, I have to accept it even when I don’t like tricks at all. But maybe you do like. So I’m going to tell you how you can use it and benefit from it.

THE “COOL NAME” TECHNIQUE TO CREATE A CATCHY ARTICLE TITLE.

Imagine you have this title in your article: “The way I achieved a great score playing Fortnite”. And now imagine that this is the article title: “The ThunderStorm technique:  The way I achieved a great score playing Fornite”. Which one do you think is going to be more successful? If you choose the second one, you are right! People love labels, and if the label comes with a cool name, they get totally hooked in.

That is what the “Cool Name” Technique is about. You have to create a Catchy name for the way you did something, you include that name in the article title, and you are going to see how clicks increase instantly. Is that all? Not really but now I’m going to tell you how to do it right.

HOW TO DO IT?

A) CREATE A TECHNIQUE.

Of course, first of all, you must have a method. You are not going to call “technique” to something that you are not able to repeat anymore. So it’s very important that you define some steps that you have to go follow in order to reach a goal.  To do this, I usually use Mind Mapping. I told you about this technique on this post: How to start a business from scratch. It’s a great way to develop ideas into single steps. Mind Meister is the free tool that I choose when I do it on the computer. [Full Disclosure: As an affiliate, I receive compensation when you make a purchase through this link. Thanks].

B) IMAGINE A METAPHOR.

Now you should see all the technique you have just created as a whole and ask yourself: What metaphor could relate to this technique?

Here you need your creativity. For example: If your technique is iterative, and you are working in circles you could call it “the donut technique”. If you are talking about a method to grow your business by saving some income to invest later you could call it “the smart ant”. Etc.

It’s important if your name sounds interesting, funny o even odd. What you want is to catch the reader’s attention.

C) CONNECT THE METAPHOR WITH THE TECHNIQUE.

Finally, you need to connect both, name and technique. Tell to your reader why that name has a sense when pairing that technique. This is the way the name becomes useful for the reader. It becomes a trigger to remember exactly what the technique is about. And from that moment, between people who know the technique, they can refer to it with that name. They don’t have to explain every detail to make them know what they are talking about.

But there’s a bigger reward for you. A catchy title name is giving you views, clicks, virality. And although is a trick, it’s not the worst I saw. It’s a kind of innocent trick. 🙂

WHERE DID I FIND THIS TRICK?

A long time ago I read this article about backlinks from the great Brian Dean. He is a true SEO pop star and a great source of valuable information. (Thanks Brian if you read this someday. It would be really cool if you come around here!)

In that article, besides showing great results about the experiment, he said that if you give a technique a “cool” name, the audience would pay much more attention. They would share it and read it much more. I suggest you read it if you want to go deeper in this technique (and by the way, giving credit to Brian’s article is a clear way of proving that, at least for him, the technique is working).

you could think that everything is a strategy on The Internet. At least, everything that is getting relevant. There are also lots of people with no strategies at all, but you are not going to reach them precisely because of that. Share on X

CONCLUSION: IS EVERYTHING A STRATEGY IN THE ONLINE WORD? ALMOST.

Yep, you could think that everything is a strategy on The Internet. At least, everything that is getting relevant. I think that there are lots of people with no strategies but, usually, you are not going to reach them precisely because of that.

But It could be even worse. You could be trying a strategy and getting no results.  And that’s because those strategies that you learn and try to put in practice not always work for “normal” sites.  I’ll explain it to you:

On this article from our friends of Ahrefs, they state exactly that: For normal people with normal sites, I mean, people that are not “gurus” and sites that don’t have a high volume of visits, the strategy that Brian talked about doesn’t work that well. Literally: “As you see, simply following the Skyscraper Technique practices does not guarantee you any decent results”.

So what can we do? Of course, if you like the technique, try it and see what it happens!

I did that way. I’m not talking about the technique because I read Brian article. I walked the talk. You can look for the “bee technique” in this article: Mastering Divergent Thinking. “The Bee Technique”. There you’ll have a real example of how to do it to improve an article title with this trick. And yes, I only make it because I wanted to test it before I wrote this article to you. I’ll tell you more about it as soon as I could see the results of that post in the future.  But I have to tell you, isn’t it nice that name for the technique? The bee technique. Isn’t it poetic? I think I’d finally keep it from now on when I talk about Divergent Thinking in my offline mentoring and workshops. 😀
